Gond are one of the large tribes of Central India. They also call themselves Koitur or Koi. Gond painting is a traditional art of Madhya Pradesh and belongs to the Gond tribe. Gond artists portray nature in vivid ways in Gond paintings because they believe that the life of man and nature are interlinked. Each Gond artist uses his own distinctive pattern and style to fill the images. They use dots, fine lines, geometrical shapes and fish scales texture over the coloured painting to create signature patterns.
